St Helens Mind is introducing a paid counselling service to respond to growing demand for affordable mental health support in our community. This new service enables local people to access counselling in a familiar, trusted setting, while also helping us sustain and grow our free services.

Income from counselling is reinvested directly into St Helens Mind, supporting our charitable work across the borough and strengthening long‑term mental health provision for local people.

What we offer

Our counselling service provides person‑centred, one‑to‑one support delivered in a safe, confidential environment.

  • One‑hour counselling sessions
  • Up to eight sessions per person
  • An initial consultation to explore your needs and suitability for counselling
  • A clear, time‑limited structure to ensure safe and effective therapeutic boundaries

Counselling takes place in a private room within our St Helens office, offering a calm and supportive space to talk.

Who the service is for

This service is suitable for adults who are experiencing emotional or mental health difficulties and would benefit from structured counselling support.

If paid counselling is not the right option for you, our team can also signpost you to free services and other local support available through St Helens Mind.

Cost and accessibility
  • Counselling sessions are £25 per session.
  • Sessions last one hour
  • Cashless payments only (we do not accept cash)

We aim to keep our counselling service affordable and accessible, while ensuring a safe, high‑quality standard of care. Income from counselling is reinvested into St Helens Mind’s services, helping us continue to offer free mental health support across the borough.

Full details about attendance and payment arrangements will be shared at your initial consultation.

Booking and confidentiality

Appointments are managed securely to ensure:

  • Confidential handling of personal information
  • Clear appointment scheduling and waiting‑list management
